Instead of redeveloping the ageing existing facilities, the Government will build a state-of-the-art, six-storey hospital on a greenfields site directly next to the current campus. This approach means the new hospital can be delivered faster, with minimal disruption to current services, while also creating future opportunities to repurpose the old buildings — potentially for aged care or other important health services once construction is complete.
Construction of the new Peel Health Campus will begin in 2026, delivering:
A major increase in hospital capacity to meet the needs of our growing community
A modernised facility built to contemporary clinical standards
An expanded 39-bay Emergency Department
A dedicated Mental Health Emergency Centre
New cancer treatment facilities
A dedicated mental health inpatient unit
A dedicated palliative care unit
Additional inpatient beds, including a new High Dependency Unit
A new operating theatre complex
Expanded public outpatient services, building on the hospital’s transition to public operation in August 2024
